"Your Path to a Purposeful Healthy Life"
Introduction:
Choosing a worthwhile and healthy life requires a holistic approach that considers all elements of well-being, including physical, mental, and emotional health. Here are some important factors to consider in your journey:
Finding Beauty in the Present Moment :
Our search for meaning is firmly ingrained in our psychological and emotional makeup.
A life lived with meaning is filled with enjoyment, motivation, and mental well-being.
It assists us in finding significance in our daily lives, offering us fulfillment and contentment.
It's what keeps us grounded, and it's what drives us to achieve our goals.
Don’t get overwhelmed by the idea of finding your one true purpose. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Purpose isn’t a fixed entity but continuously evolving and changing as we grow, learn, and experience life. Your purpose today might shift tomorrow, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s about living intentionally, discovering what inspires you, and continuously evolving.
How to know when you’ve found your purpose
Consider anything that motivates you to get out of bed and start your day. It directs your daily actions and provides meaning and security to your life. This "something" is known as purpose. When someone has a sense of purpose, they have long-term goals that are important to them and are driven to engage in activities that help them achieve these goals. Each person's purpose will be distinct. For example, one's faith, job, personal achievements, leisure activities, or relationships can all provide a sense of purpose. Regardless of the source, researchers are beginning to discover purpose and how it effects not just our everyday behaviors but also our health decisions.
People who act in accordance with their purpose tend to accomplish well in their daily lives. They report eating healthier (1), exercising (2), and receiving preventative health care (3). When it comes to getting a good night's sleep, people who have a purpose report less sleep interruptions and being more calm (4). Aside from how purpose effects our daily actions, those who live a purposeful life have a lower risk of strokes (5), Alzheimer's, and cardiovascular disease (6). They also live longer lives!
Meet new people and create a community that inspires you:
Finding people who share similar interests to yours, such as in a class, community, or online organization, is a good place to start. Surround yourself with people who are looking for their purpose and who will (gently) push you to grow as a person.
If you have other friends who are looking for meaning in their lives, you could arrange a monthly 'purpose potluck' where everyone brings a dish and shares their story. These could be about their most alive moments, their passion, or a project they're working on.
Practice mindfulness to help you develop self-awareness:
Rooting yourself in the present moment is one of the best methods to connect with yourself and what you want out of life. It's easier said than done, but practicing mindfulness and meditation is one of the greatest ways to get there. The more you do these disciplines, the more in tune you'll become with yourself, and the more in tune you are with yourself, the closer you'll be to finding more purpose in your life.
