Experts trends in fitness for 2024

Every year sees a fresh set of trends in wellness as many people attempt to manipulate their health in an effort to feel their best.

Last year 2023 was a big year for mental health. A serious blow was delivered to Diet Coke. Ozempic rose to national prominence. Magnesium was popular formerly. Everyone should be fit. And there were lots of plants on everyone's plates.
But what can we expect in 2024? Members of the Forbes Health Advisory Board discuss the top health, eating, and exercise trends they believe will emerge in the upcoming year below.

In terms of nutrition in 2023, plants were the main focus. Plant-based diets are extremely popular, as evidenced by data from the social media platform TikTok, where the hashtag #plantbased had 1 billion views in the United States in the previous year[1]. In the meantime, over the previous year, 200 million people viewed #plantbasedrecipes. However, other experts point out that the industry producing fake meat will keep trying to stake its claim on the plant-based movement.
According to registered dietitian and Nutrisense co-founder Kara Collier, "the food processing and synthetic biology industries continue to conjure ways to promote'sustainable' plant-based meat-mimicking products, including fish-mimicking products." "Marketing initiatives are grabbing the opportunity to capitalize on developments in plant-based approaches, even while the nutrition research community is still dubious and divided about some of these products.

Older people, who frequently have a protein gap in their diets, are one demographic that may benefit most from a protein boost, according to best-selling cookbook author and registered dietitian Toby Amidor. As a licensed dietitian, she says, "I applaud the trend if it is toward increasing protein consumption among older adults, as they specifically consume less protein."
Is there a specific protein that Amidor thinks will be popular in 2024? She exclaims, "Fish, fish, and more fish!" There will be an increase in fish-eating items available in the market, such as single-serve cooked fish packets that can be opened and chilled for use over salads or sandwiches, as well as other simple methods of incorporating fish into your diet and enjoying its health advantages.

Sustainability

As the climate situation worsens, Newgent predicts that "regenerative agriculture, uncycled ingredients, environmentally-conscious packaging, and other climate-conscious practices will continue to gain momentum."
In fact, a number of members of the Forbes Health Advisory Board have noted that sustainable practices would lead the way in nutrition in 2024. According to TikTok data, videos on how to effectively use leftovers and extend the shelf life of food garnered 88 million views in the United States in 2023 under the hashtag #foodwaste[5].
According to Stoler, another trend for the new year is upcycling and reusing food, especially when it comes to using components for other finished food products that could otherwise be thrown out or not as "pretty."

Group Excercise
Experts predict that in the post-pandemic era, people will take to social sports and group exercise, pointing out that a feeling of community has advantages of its own apart from physical fitness. Particularly popular is pickleball, with 459 million American views on TikTok throughout the course of 2023.
O'Neil predicts that when retirees and work from home/hybrid workers discover they have more time for health in their schedules, social sports like tennis, pickleball, and golf will grow in popularity.
Collier continues, "I think the popularity of group workouts will only grow as more people yearn for social interactions in the wake of the pandemic." "I believe that more people are realizing the value of community, meaningful connections, and relationships." She sees a shift away from virtual activities and toward greater in-person interaction as  rather than virtual activities, as another big trend.

It can be challenging to navigate the realm of wellness trends because there are a lot of influencers and unreliable "experts" on TikTok and social media that promote claims that aren't always supported by data. Before attempting a new trend, our Health Advisory Board stresses the value of getting tailored advice from your healthcare physician.
According to Collier, "if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is." "There is no magic cure when it comes to health and fitness. Therefore, anything that seems like a short fix is probably not going to provide you with the long-term outcomes you're after. Furthermore, anything that is being marketed as "good for everyone" ought to cause for caution. There is no one ideal diet, cuisine, or exercise regimen because each of us is highly unique.

Conclusions

In conclusion, the most recent developments in the fitness industry show a dynamic environment that is influenced by changing customer tastes, advances in technology, and an increased emphasis on overall wellbeing. The fitness industry is constantly innovating and adapting to meet the varied needs of people looking to enhance their physical and mental resilience. Examples of this include the incorporation of virtual and augmented reality into workouts, the emergence of personalized training programs, and the growing popularity of mindful movement practices like yoga and tai chi. As we proceed, it's critical to accept these trends with an open mind, appreciating their potential to empower people on their path to better, healthier lives. Through adopting cutting-edge technologies, creating welcoming and accessible exercise centers, or placing a high value on ecological practices, the latest trends.
